Happy Veteran's Day

Today in class we continued working on our gigantic letters (they are over half the height of me). Cutting and taping the letters is not as hard as I thought it would be. On Monday we will go around campus and see where everyone put their letters. I am excited to get out and look around, hopefully the weather holds up! I am going to attach some pictures of my group working, hopefully next time I blog they will be all done!

Displace

For the group portion of this project we are going to make a HUGE word and put it in a location on campus that adds to the definition of the word. Our group drew the word DISPLACE.

dis·place

vt \(ˈ)dis-ˈplās\
dis·placeddis·plac·ing

Definition of DISPLACE

1
a : to remove from the usual or proper place <in heterotopia the gray portions of the cord are displaced so that patches of gray matter are scattered among the bundles of white fibers—R. L. Cecil et al> b : to shift (an emotion or behavior) from a maladaptive or unacceptable object or form of outlet to a more adaptive or acceptable one <displace punishable behavior by directing it towards things that cannot punish—B. F. Skinner>
2
: to set free from chemical combination by taking the place of <zinc displaces the hydrogen of dilute acids>
3
: to subject to percolation

Our ideas of where to put the word are as follows:
Displace locations:
-Potter lake
-Infront of snow hall
-Rec center…net splitting word
-Placing letters on a hill
-Splitting the word with height
-Library
-Underground
-Sitting in the bus seats

Squeeeeeeeeze

So we just had to add color to our words and I chose blue, orange and pink. It was kinda fun playing with all the different shades of those specific colors. It was kinda hard to work with Illustrator for me at first..but then I got help and it made sense all of a sudden. I just hope I don't forget how to do the things I learned. I have kinda realized that working with Illustrator is kind of like solving a puzzle. Once you get it, it makes complete sense and every project is unique and takes a little figuring out. I am going to attach the 18 color refinements we had to do for 11/1/2010. Thats all for now!
