We spent the last day of September drawing our objects in abstract, descriptive, and typographic ways. We also had another Illustrator tutorial...I can't decide if it helped or made me more confused. I plan on going through the tutorials we got from the server this weekend to make Illustrator a little less foreign to me. I had fun with the Typographical ways of drawing my nail polish. I used words like stylish, sleek, glossy, and glamorous. So far this project has been really eye-opening. I never thought I would be able to look at a nail polish bottle in over 200 ways. Attached is what I did to my nail polish picture in our Illustrator tutorial. We learned how to use the pen tool..which proved to be very complicated actually, I am having the most trouble making a curved line with the tool. Hopefully I'll understand the mysteries of Illustrator someday :)
Peace out.

9/28 BDS
Today in class we worked on the next four representations of our object and had another Illustrator tutorial. I had fun looking at different ways to portray my object (which is nailpolish). I found pictures of different brushes online and sketched them. It is kind of hard finding 20 different ways to represent a brush..or a nail..or painting, but as I worked I came up with new ideas. The Illustrator tutorial helped a lot as well because I have never worked with it before! I really do have a better sense of what I'm doing and I hope I can get it down for our final project. Class went well today overall :)

IDEO--
The video we watched in class about IDEO was really interesting! I really enjoyed the work ethic the company has and how they invite weird and innovative ideas. The thing that stands out to me the most is how fast they put together a shopping cart. They went from old design to a completely working new design in only 5 days..it was insane. I feel like all their employees are extremely talented, and although I do not see myself pursuing ID, their creativeness is really inspiring. I can only hope to have that much fun at my future job :) Once again, the movie was really informative and shed light on a really cool job that is absolutely necessary in our world.

The new and improved toothbrush?
Who would have thought so many details go into the renovation of a toothbrush. After inspecting my poorly designed toothbrush, I realized it really was crappy. So the question is, how do I redesign this product in a manor that coincides with the 10 commandments of good design!? I am really excited to work with my group and it will be interesting to see what we come up with.
During class today my group talked a lot about the environmentally friendly aspects of our product. We discussed what the bristles are made of and we discovered that they are made of synthetic fibers. The though of my teeth scraping against a chemically made piece of fiber sounds nasty, but it the fibers have been used for years. Before synthetic fibers were popular, the bristles where made of cellulose fiber, which I am still confused as to what that is. I plan on doing more research and either learning that synthetic fibers are really not that bad, or that there is an alternative that is more environmentally friendly and doesn't gross me out!
That's all for nowzies.
